Obituary for Sherry Ogden Quinby

Sherry Ogden Quinby
Sherry Leonard Ogden Quinby was born February 26, 1935 in Fairmont, WV along with her twin sister, Sandra Lee to Herbert Leland Ogden and Nell Cathryn Brenneman. She spent her early childhood in West Virginia. Her father entered the Navy as an attorney achieving the rank of Captain working in the JAG office. She grew up on Naval bases, primarily in Virginia. Sherry enjoyed attending midshipman dances and other social activities.
She and her twin sister Sandra attended Mary Washington College in VA for two years. From there they separated. Sherry attended the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill for one semester. She then transferred to the University of California at Berkley, where her father was stationed in San Francisco. Sherry worked for one summer with her father in the JAG office. She graduated from the University of California at Berkley, with a degree in Psychology.
Sherry worked briefly in a 9 to 5 job, but always had an adventurous spirit and longed to see the world. She was selected to be a flight attendant for American Airlines back when flying was considered a luxury. Being a flight attendant was a natural fit for her and she achieved her dream of seeing the world. Greenland was the only country she did not visit. While on a blind date, she met her husband, Howland Clark Quinby, a pilot for Pan Am. They honeymooned in Europe and upon their return, married in Las Vegas. They had one daughter, Christine Lee. After a brief marriage, they divorced. Sherry's mother was very supportive and helpful in caring for Chrissy. Because of her love of travel and position with the airlines, she was able to show her daughter the world and expose her to different cultures. Sherry had a unique sense of humor and enjoyed telling jokes and making people laugh. A trait she likely inherited from her father.
Sherry was deeply involved in political causes in Orange County, California. She championed the humane treatment of animals. Several times Sherry participated in animal welfare and political marches in Washington, D.C. She loved the USA; advocated for the rights of its citizens, and fought to maintain the Constitution "of this great country".
Sherry is survived by: her daughter, Christine Lee Quinby; twin sister, Sandra Lee and her husband, Skip Struckman; nephew, Stephen; niece, Sharon; great nephew, Soren Lee; and great niece, Lara Finn. She is also survived by two of her beloved cats, Zorro and Peeta; grand dogs, Rudi, Cricket, and Harvey; two grand cats, Remy and Goose all who reside with her daughter, Christine. She also leaves behind two dear friends who are truly extended family, Sylvia and Judy. Sherry also leaves many good friends in California, where she made her life.
The family would like to thank Covenant Hospice: Vanessa Hartley, Darrel Volrath, and Al Tremble for their help and loving care. Also all of the caring aides at Pacifica Creekside: Andrea, Justine, Teresa, Pam, Shamika, and Jaimaya; special aide, and friend, Donna Tomory; and friend and companion, Ron Wright.
In memory of Sherry, the family feels it would make her very happy if you would adopt a pet in her honor.
