Daniel T. Forster was born on May 3, 1926 at Sacred Heart Hospital and lost his battle with cancer on April 25, 2017.
He went to Escambia County schools and graduated from Pensacola High School in 1944. He immediately joined the U.S. Navy at age 17 and served on the USS Chicago during the last two years of World War II. His ship was part of the fleet that participated in the first naval bombardment of the Japanese home islands. The ship was in Tokyo Bay for the signing of the peace treaty ending the war.
Daniel completed a four-year apprenticeship at Pensacola Naval Air Station and became a machinist. He obtained two degrees from Auburn University and retired as a senior manufacturing engineer with Lockheed Aircraft in Marietta, GA. In 1985, he moved home to Warrington and lived on the property his grandfather Frank Pou bought in 1909.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years (Ann); his brother, Frank; niece, Rebecca Czach (Rick); nephew, David (Christine) and their families; and many cousins. A special thanks to cousin Terese Scarritt Shelton whose loving care made his last days easier.
Daniel was active in both the Atlanta and Pensacola Audubon Societies, serving on boards of both. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, birding, and photography. His generosity helped several young friends and neighbors with college tuition. He was a treasured neighbor and friend.
We appreciate the wonderful care he had at Sacred Heart Hospital and Cancer Center, at the Life Care Center, the STAT Home Health Care Center, and the Emerald Coast Hospice with a special thanks to Dr. Donald Blackmon and Dr. Thomas Sunnenberg and their professional and caring staffs.
A Celebration of life will be scheduled later.
