Obituary for Melvin Ward Jr.

Mel Ward, Jr., 84, died in his home on October 19, 2017, in Milton Florida. He was born on August 19, 1933 in Hutchinson, Kansas and attended Hutchinson High School.
Mel came from a family of boxers, including his father and brothers. While living in Kansas, he won the State Golden Glove Title.
While serving four years in the Navy, he boxed on the US Navy boxing team. During his career in the Navy, he became the All Service Boxing Champion. In later years, Mel and his wife enjoyed attending and watching FSU football games.
Mel is preceded in death by his parents, Mel Sr. and Margaret Ward; and two brothers, DA Ward and Bill Ward.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kay; ten children: Rocky Ward, Karen Barnes, Joanna Parr (Danny), Lanette Smerchek, Michelle Jackson (Ronnie), Denise Seidel (Keven), Darla Graham (Kevin), Charlie Ward (Shaire), Belinda Gimpel (Richard), and Shelley Brower (Bob); two nephews and one niece: Billy Ward, Beau Ward, and Barbie Cocker; twenty-five grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; mother-in-law, Stella Siehndel; and very special friends and neighbors, Kevin and Laurie Simmons.
Memorial service in Florida will be officiated by his lifelong friend, Pastor Paul Hyde at the Outreach Christian Church, 2480 E Nine Mile Road, Pensacola, Florida at 3:00 p.m. on October 25. Trahan Family Funeral Home of Milton is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial service in Kansas will be at 3:00 p.m. on November 2 at Wesley, 700 Monterey Place, Hutchinson, Kansas. His cousin Michael Sanders will officiate.
