Obituary for Mary Sue Adams

Mary Sue Adams
Today we celebrate the life of Mary Sue Adams, a bright, driven, and vigorous woman. Daughter of Beatrice and Sperling Carmichael, Mary was born on May 08th, 1944 with her twin sister Martha. Mary was born in Minter, Alabama, and was a part of a big beautiful family with many siblings.

Mary's siblings included a total of 14 brothers and sisters: Sherman, Inez, Lucille, Elizabeth, Bernice, Sperling, James, Albert, Whittman, Martha, Grover, Authur, Leon, and Wayman. In part from coming from such a big family, Mary truly valued her family relationships and kinship. Family was of the utmost importance to her, as she was at her happiest when she was surrounded by them.

Mary began to start her own family with Samuel Adams when they were married on September 14, 1963. Samuel and Mary had 5 kids, including identical twins, Carletta and Carlita; Samuel Jr., Eric, and Sean. Her family continued to expand when her children grew and had kids of their own.

Mary first became a grandmother on November 11th, 1984 when her grandson Julious was born. She would eventually have a total of 12 grandchildren; Julious, Tabatha, Iesha, Naomi, Ereca, Daniel Jr., Eric Jr., Gabrielle, Eriel, Maliya, Sarah, and Hannah. If asked by any of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Mary Adams was known as Mama Mary.

Mary's spirit was nothing short of kind and bestowing, as in an addition to being a great matriarch for her family, she helped others in need by being involved in the church and multiple charities.
Mary also had a strong interest in education and furthering her knowledge in multiple career fields. She graduated high school from St. Joseph's and continued her education at Sacred Heart Radiology Technology School. She had a diverse career as she was not only a Radiologist Technician but also a licensed cosmetologist. Mary's passion for learning was demonstrated in her continued involvement with the Cobbs center, whether it was volunteering or taking classes. She was known by her family to always impart wisdom and advice, as she was not only thoughtful but wise.

Her fearless and tenacious spirit will forever be remembered by those who she held dear and near.
She was preceded in death by her Mother Beatrice Carmichael; Father Sperling Carmichael; Brothers Sherman, Sperling, James, Albert, Grover, Wayman; and Sister Lucille.

Her memory will be treasured by her loving husband Samuel Adams; her children Carletta (Merrill) Tilley, Carlita (Daniel) Garcia, Samuel Jr. (Sophia) Adams of Duluth, GA, Eric (Sandy) Adams, and Sean Adams of Pensacola, FL; her siblings Inez of Chicago, IL, Elizabeth, Bernice, Sperling, Whittman, Martha, Authur, Leon, and of Pensacola, FL; Brother-in-laws Joseph, Tim (Gail) Adams; Sister-in-laws Dora (Neil) Kent, Gloria Harbin, Shirley Harrison, Shirley Adams; Grandchildren Julious, Tabatha, Iesha, Naomi, Ereca, Daniel jr, Eric Jr, Gabrielle, Eriel, Maliya, Sara, and Hannah; Great grandchildren Hayden, Adah, Alaiah, Zoe, Ethan, Isiah, Edan; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 140 West Government Street, Pensacola with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
