Katherine “Kay” Davis Varner, 77, of Pensacola, FL passed peacefully from this world on Sunday, January 7, 2018 in much the same way she lived it- with grace, devotion, and love. Kay’s love of family and her firm belief in God supported her throughout her entire life and ultimately gave her peace.
Kay, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law, was a native and lifetime resident of Pensacola, and a member of the PHS Class of 1958. She was a long-time member of Myrtle Grove Baptist Church, where she served in many volunteer capacities, mostly in the clothing ministry. She had been an active member of the Red Hat Society.
Kay touched many lives during her life and was well loved by many. This very special lady, who has been confined to a wheelchair for the last three years, will be missed more than words can describe. Suffice to say that Kay now resides in Heaven, and is now walking on the streets of gold along with her Lord for eternity.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 55 years, Ward; her daughters, Kimberly (Norman) Schweizer of Springfield, VA.; Krystal Varner of Pensacola, FL.; Karmen Petri (David) of Norfolk, VA.; and two granddaughters, Gracie and Ashley Schweitzer of Springfield, VA.
Kay was preceded by her mother and stepfather, Clarence and Frances Gentry; and her brother, James “Jimmy” Gentry.
A celebration of life will be held at Myrtle Grove Baptist Church on Friday, January 19, 2018. Family will be receiving guests at 1:00 p.m. until the service begins at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Myrtle Grove Baptist Church Clothing Ministry in Kay’s honor.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Baptist Hospital Intensive Care Unit, and the staff of Covenant Care at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Trahan Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
