Obituary for Edward Dewitt Carrington

Edward Dewitt  Carrington
Reverend Edward Dewitt Carrington went home to be with his Lord on February 25, 2018. He was born in Lockhart, AL on January 3, 1931 to Edward and Frieda Carrington. At an early age the family moved to Birmingham where he grew up and attended school. At the age of 17, he joined the United States Navy where he had duty stations in Corpus Christi and San Diego.
He married Shirley Alyce Hyden of Birmingham in 1950 and was stationed in Honolulu in 1953 for the birth of his first son Alan Dale Carrington. Upon returning to the states and being assigned to NAS Whiting Field, Milton FL; his second son, David Lynn Carrington was born in 1956. After serving 9 years in the Navy he returned to Birmingham for a time and worked for Hayes Aircraft. He returned to active service with the United States Air Force and was assigned to Craig AFB, Selma, AL where he was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. After being at Wheelus AFB, Tripoli, Libya for 3 years, he returned to the States in 1967 to Eglin AFB and retired from active service in 1968.
The family returned to Birmingham and lived there for a few years until making their home in Milton, FL. Upon returning to Milton, he joined Olivet Baptist Church and served as Treasurer for 35 plus years and Deacon. At the age of 60, he was called to the pulpit and was Pastor at Stump Springs Baptist Church and served in that position 20 years. He continued his work at Olivet leading the morning church worship service until his retirement and also held the position of Deacon Emeritus.
Rev. Carrington was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Carrington in 2008 and son, Alan Dale Carrington in 2010.
He is survived by: his son, David L. Carrington and wife Scarlett; granddaughter, Jamie L Carrington; grandsons, Jared (Tifany) of Pensacola and Daniel Faulk (Stephanie) of Birmingham; and great-grandsons: Donavan, Aiden and Jackson. He leaves behind many family members and his church family at Olivet and Stump Springs. He made many friends in Milton area where he resided for almost 50 years. He loved to fish on Yellow River and was never far from his Bible that he read and studied daily.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral service begins at 12 noon on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Olivet Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Olivet Baptist Church
The family would like to thank the staff at Sandy Ridge for the greatest of care during his last days.
