Abraham Alonza Nelson, 67, of Pensacola, FL, went home to be with His Lord & Savior on Sunday, March 4, 2018. He passed away, in his home, after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by his loved ones. Abe was an avid fisherman, who loved days on his bass tracker boat. For 25 years, he enjoyed being a beekeeper, extracting honey. Abe was a big-hearted man, generous in deed and spirit. He had a great sense of humor and never met a stranger.
Abe was born in Jay, FL, to Leah Mae & John D. Nelson, on December 21, 1950. He was raised in Berrydale, FL but moved to Pensacola later in life. While in Pensacola, he met and fell in love with, Kathy. They married and joined families on December 18, 1989.
Abe is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Norman, Red, and J.D.
Abe is survived by: his loving wife, Kathy; his children, Diane (Daryl)
Johnson, William (Dora) Nelson, Naomi (Jason) Ward, Lisa (Tommy) Needham, Stephen (Gerii) Brogan, and Keith (Lizzie) Nelson; his ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother, Cecil (Marilyn) Nelson; and two sisters: Alta (Bill) McAnally and Eloise Blair.
Trahan Family Funeral Home of Pensacola is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until the funeral service begins at
1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 9, 2018 at Trahan Family Funeral Home, 419 Yoakum Ct, Pensacola, FL, 32505. His son, William Nelson, will be officiating the service.
The family wishes to extend their thanks and gratitude to everyone who has called, visited, prayed for, and brought food to Abe’s family.
Pallbearers will be: sons, Keith Nelson and Stephen Brogan; nephews, Kevin Nelson and Cecil Nelson, Jr.; brother-in-law, Richard Vigil; and family friend, Brian Thurman.
