Donna Kay Barze Gache, 69, of Pace passed away on March 6, 2018 at 7:05 p.m. with her husband and daughter by her side.
Donna Kay was born on August 8, 1948 in Montgomery, AL to Bruce Enlow Barze and Gwendolyn Knight Barze. The family moved to Clanton, AL where she graduated from Clanton High School. She later married and gave birth to her daughter, Michelle Marie Mullins.
After moving to Tallahassee, FL, she took a job with the Florida Department of Agriculture working for Doyle Conner. She then came west in the panhandle eventually settling in Pensacola. Here she worked with the local Architectural firm Barrett, Daffin, and Carlin before becoming Secretary to Dr. Henry Roberts of the First United Methodist Church. It is there that she met her husband, Matt, a retired Naval Aviator. They were married in that church on the 17th of December 1988 and recently celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary. Donna retired after fifteen years at the University of West Florida serving in both the Computer Services and Human Resources Departments.
Donna loved her family and adored her grandchildren who lovingly called her “Nona”. Her greatest pleasure was caring for them and watching them grow up. With a talent in the kitchen, Donna enjoyed cooking and often picked from her own garden of fresh herbs and vegetables. She relaxed while reading historical novels and could often be caught reading on her iPad or playing Words with Friends.
In private moments, Donna would share a dance or two with her husband to songs pulled from their vast music collection. A reason to get the family together also included the occasional fresh fish fry by her son-in-law, Jeff.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Bruce Barze.
Donna is survived by: her devoted husband, Matt Gache; her daughter, Michelle Gray; son-in-law, Jeff Gray; two grandchildren, Jameson Gray and Brooklynn Gray; her step-daughter, Jackie Tucker; step-son, James Gache; and numerous extended family members.
Respects can be made at Trahan Family Funeral Home of Milton on Saturday, March 17, 2018 with visitation starting at 12 noon until the memorial service begins at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Park Cemetery on Scenic Highway in Pensacola.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to be made to Feeding the Gulf Coast, your local Waterfront Rescue Mission, and Covenant Hospice Inpatient Care. These are organization Donna supported throughout her lifetime and provided comfort in her passing.
