John C. Sherman
On March 22, 2018 surrounded by loved ones in his home, John C. Sherman, age 76, left us to be welcomed into Heaven by our Lord. He was born December 06, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois to Frank and Lucille Sherman. John grew up on the south side of Chicago until his teens when the family moved to Pensacola Beach. Here he met the love of his life, Sharon Betz. They married in 1961 and had three children, Shannon, Linda and John.
John had a diverse career which started as a child growing up in a small family owned carnival business. After a tour in the Air Force, he worked at Tenneco Chemicals Newport Division where he learned to love the business world, but he wanted his own business. He started by managing O'Brien Winnebago. That year his company won the award for most units sold nation-wide and he won a trip to the factory headquarters. Later that year, one of his clients convinced him to get his real estate license and come to work at her brokerage. He loved real estate especially commercial. This led him to purchase his own property on Highway 98 and open his dream business, Midway Consignment Center and Flea Market which he ran for thirty years until retirement.
He is survived by Sharon Sherman, his wife of 56 years; daughter Shannon Rodriguez (Ralph); daughter Linda Sherman (Tom Devoursney); son John Sherman (Jeanie) and five grandchildren; Amber, R.J., Miranda, Samantha, Sydney; four great-grandchildren; brother Frank Sherman (Mary); sister Linda Pine; sister Cathy Gomez (Bill) and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends also to include his “adopted son” Robert Caston.
He was greeted in Heaven by his father Frank Sherman; mother Lucille Sherman (Lulu); his son-in-law Scott Horton; and his brother-in-law Jim Pine as well as other loved ones.
John was known for:
His sense of humor and exuberant laugh that could be identified in a crowd
Sense of style “standard uniform”
Never meeting a stranger
Inspirational pearls of wisdom provided when you needed them most
Never ending stories that somehow always found their way back to the point
The family would like to thank the VA and Covenant Care staff for all the support and care they provided to John and his wife. Our love also goes to all of our family and friends who were there for us.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date.
