EuVaughn Thomley Burkhead, 78, passed away on the evening of June 28, 2018, surrounded by her devoted family. She was born to John Clayton Thomley and Ester Lee Scott Thomley on July 20, 1939, in Chumuckla, FL. Her family migrated north to Jay when she was in the first grade, and that is when she met her first and lifelong friend, Patsy Bowers Free. EuVaughn was a 1957 graduate of Jay High School. It was while she was in high school that she met her loving husband, John L. Burkhead, at a skating rink in 1956. They married the next year, when she was 17 years old. Their faithful and dedicated son, John L. (Johnny) Burkhead, Jr. was born in 1958. Together with her father, EuVaughn and John started Clayton Oil Company, which later became John L. Burkhead, Inc. EuVaughn and her family have served Jay and the surrounding area for 61 years.
EuVaughn was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Mary Thomley, one infant brother, and her beloved John. She is survived by her precious son, Johnny (Amy) Burkhead, granddaughters Samantha Leigh Burkhead (Tracy) Diamond, Mia Granberry (Taylor), great grandchildren, Bethany Diamond (Scott), John Ryder Diamond, Owen Reed Diamond, and Laird Charles Blanton, sister, Virginia McCrory, special nephew Zane (Sherre) Burkhead, and special great nephew Dutch Burkhead, along with other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, one special cousin, Glenda Booker, who was like a daughter to her, and the many friends of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
A graveside service will be held at Cora Cemetery on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at 3:00 pm, with Jesse Claunch, minister of Century Church of Christ, officiating. Trahan Family Funeral Home of Milton, FL is entrusted with the arrangements.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff and physicians at Jay Hospital, West Florida ICU, and Inpatient Covenant Care Hospice at West Florida Hospital for their compassionate care.
