Obituary for Douglas Ray McBride

Douglas Ray McBride, 84, sadly passed away on Monday July 23, 2018. Doug was born in Buffalo, NY to his parents Leon Christian McBride and Mabel McBride Watts. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his older brother Leon W. McBride. He spent most of his younger life growing up in upstate New York and Canada.
Doug served in the Navy on board the USS Monterey. After the military he began his career in the automobile business as a car salesman. He enjoyed working with people and didn’t consider it work, more as an opportunity to help customers and their families. Doug finished his career as the lead salesman at Markham and Sons Signs here in Pensacola, Florida.
At the age of 25 he married the love of his life Gloria Y. Davis McBride, or as he liked to say his “little bride”. This December, they would’ve been together for 59 wonderful years. Doug and Gloria had two children Dana R. McBride and Mark D. McBride and daughter in law Kimberlee D. McBride.
Doug also known as “Pop” had three grandchildren: Amanda Louise (husband and grandson in law Donnie Wade), Megan Danielle (husband & grandson in law David Giannotti), and Mackenzee Dianne McBride. Pop was an amazing and always supportive grandfather. He spent many days at tennis, golf, or softball events rooting on his girls. He loved sports, and of course, he was always the loudest in the crowd cheering his family on. Doug was also very blessed to have three great grandchildren: Paisley and Jaxon Giannotti, and Elouise Wade.
Their home was always a place where everyone was more than welcome. Whether it was playing endless games of tennis on the court, having diving contests into the pool, or watching a movie on the big screen, the McBride Home was somewhere you wanted to be, and they always enjoyed the company. Doug could always be found trying to put a smile on someone’s face and being a jokester was one of his most prominent attributes. He always enjoyed giving to others. His love for his family, friends, and “tomatoes” will never be forgotten. Doug was truly an amazing husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather, mentor, go to, advisor, companion, and leader. He will truly be missed. That’s the Ol’ Pop Trick.
Doug is survived by his wife Gloria McBride, his daughter Dana McBride, his son Mark (Kim) McBride, his granddaughters Amanda (Donnie) Wade, Megan (David) Giannotti, and Mackenzee McBride. He is also survived by his three great grandchildren Paisley and Jaxon Giannotti, and Elouise Wade.
The family understands Doug had many friends who loved him as we do. We appreciate all the thoughts and prayers. As per his wishes we have decided to honor Doug’s memory with a private family service with military honors that will be held at Fort Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, FL., at a later date. In lieu of flowers make donations to Wreaths Across America at Barrancas National Cemetery www.barrancaswreaths.com or www.stjude.org/donate.

“I’m Free”
Don’t grieve for me now I’m free
I’m following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day to laugh, to love, to work, or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way.
I found that peace at the close of the day.
If my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss.
Ah yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I savored much.
Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief.
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me.
God wanted me now;
He set me free.
