Mr. Perry Gray, Sr. was born in Muscogee (Cantonment), FL on December 6, 1923 to Leonard and Mattie May Gray. He was the youngest of four brothers and the older brother of three sisters.
He attended McKinley Crossing School, service in the United States Army and eventually retired from St. Regis after working 34 years. He loved traveling with family, going fishing and he farmed to feed his family and the community.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was ordained Deacon in his late twenties. He remained faithful in the service of the Lord until his health began to fail. A few of his many accomplishments includes being inducted into the Cantonment Civil Rights Hall of Fame, Chairman of Peavy Town Cemetery, and President of the Christian Benevolent Society. He was a member of St. Matthews Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Myles Bryant, at the time of his demise.
He was united in matrimony to the former Mable Ezell in 1945. They remained together until 2002, when she was called home to be with the Lord. From this union, four children were born. On August 6, 2018, Perry Gray, Sr. was given rest from his earthly labor, and called home to be with the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Mattie Mae Gray; his beloved wife of 57 years, Mable N. Gray; Willie James (Mattie); Charles, Sr. (Arlen); John (Eva) Gray; William (Fannie Mary) Ford; Leonard Gray, Jr.; and Beatrice and Damon Gray.
He leaves his precious memories to his children, Mary Cynthia Butler- Gray, Perry (Elise) Gray, Jr., Carolyn Gray-Conner, and Clement Gray. His in-laws, John Ezell, Charles Ezell, McKinney Robertson, and Arnettie Fountain. Grandchildren, Camelia (Robert) Richardson, Felicia (Steven) Richardson, Billy Ray (Robea) Paige, Elizabeth (George) Nason, Jered (Nastassia Brown) Conner, Anthony (Alice) Baker, Alexander Baker, Taylor (Ronald) Stevens, Essence Rivera-Baker, Brittany Gray, John Gray, Kenny Gray, Elliot (Anna) Harold, Jasmine Charez, LaDaryll McGuire, as well as a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
