Obituary for Duane Paxton

Duane Henry Paxton was born in Podunk, Iowa in Madison County, Iowa on March 7, 1938 to Joseph Ray Paxton of Mtn. Grove, Missouri and Minnie Mary Meyers Paxton of Coin, Iowa. He was one of four children, two sisters and one brother: Pauline Marie Paxton Spencer (Forrest), Maxine Louise Paxton Witt (Robert), and Dillard Ivan Paxton (Lois Steen).
Duane passed on December 20, 2018 at Covenant Hospice in Sacred Heart Hospital.
Duane graduated from Lorimor, Iowa Independent School. He married his high-school sweetheart, Lillian Grace Teeter Paxton, on September 16, 1956. She passed on December 30, 2000. Out of this union came five children: Kathern Lynn died in infancy in 1957, Cathy Anne Paxton of Milton, Fl., William Joseph (Debby) of Newport News, Va., Jeffrey Allen of Milton, Fl., and David Duane of Milton, Fl.
Duane served in the Navy from 1959 to 1977. He was a 1st class AMH 1 aviation hydraulics metal-smith.
Before he retired, he engaged in many business endeavors. He established Duane Paxton Concrete, doing business as Santa Rosa Fence Co., Paxton Mobile Home Service, and Paxton Pilot Escort Service. He did all of this in thirty-five years.
For thirty-nine years, Duane was the pastor of 1st Church of God in Pensacola, Fl. And Community Chapel of Pace, Fl.
From 1978- 1981, Duane traveled and sang gospel music as the Paxton Family. He recorded at Gaither Recording Studios.
He met a lot of good people and tried to spread the gospel. He always kept in touch with friends and family and always shared his faith.
On April 2, 2002 Duane married his school friend, Carolyn Joyce Green Mickael. He became a stepfather to Carolyn’s children, Chuck Mickael (Cindy), and Carol Swainston (John).
Duane is survived by seven kids, eighteen grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren, and twelve nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on December 27, 2018 from 8:30 to 9:30 at Trahan Family Funeral Home of Milton. Service and burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m.
