Obituary for John Greathouse

John Greathouse, 80, of Milton went Home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 surrounded by his family.

John was born in Decatur, AL on February 16, 1939 to Wheeler and Irene Greathouse. He served in the United States Army in the 82nd Airborne and 508th MP Battallion. He later retired from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office after 30 years of service.

John was active in Little League sports having coached for many years. He assisted in the building of Myrtle Grove ballfield, which is still active today. John shared his love of sports with his family from football to NASCAR.

John was preceded in death by: his parents, Wheeler and Irene Greathouse; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Nancy Greathouse; two children, Chip and Buffy Greathouse; and mother-in-law, Adell Livingston.

Survivors include: brother, Tom Greathouse; wife, Tonia (Livingston) Greathouse; son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Belinda Greathouse; daughter, Lucinda Greathouse; step-daughter, Jamie Carrington; step-son and daughter-in-law, Jared and Tifany Carrington; grandchildren, Kelley (Shane) Stokes, Megan (Josh) Parmer, Troy (Morgan) Murphy, Kathryn Greathouse, Donovan Long, Aiden Carrington, and Jackson Carrington; great granddaughter, Delaney Stokes; and also a large extended family of cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Santa Rosa Health and Rehab Center in Milton, FL.

Visitation will be held from 2:30 p.m. until the memorial service begins at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Trahan Family Funeral Home, 6539 Trammel Dr., Milton, FL 32570.
