Obituary for Arlene S Fuqua

Ms. Arlene Fuqua (née Stinson), of Pensacola, Florida, passed away after a brief courageous struggle with cancer on Thursday, May 28, 2020, at the age of 84.

Arlene’s friends and family know her as an independent, tenacious survivor. Born February 13, 1936, in Evergreen, Alabama, the youngest of five children, to parents Bessie Bell and James Washington Stinson,

Arlene married in Andalusia, Alabama, in 1955. She moved with her son to Pensacola in 1969 after the marriage ended due to domestic violence. She became a trailblazer for women in Pensacola, carving out a successful career in the male-dominated snack route sales profession, eventually running her own snack route sales company. She retired in the mid-1990s due to physical limitations, but she refused to slow down, immersing herself in her passion and gift for horticulture.

Arlene is survived by her son Christopher Fuqua and spouse Bonnie Lynne, granddaughter Tegan Fuqua and spouse Ashley Rizo, niece Miriam Williams, nephew Raymond Oliver and spouse Vickie, great-nephew John Williams, and great-niece Mary Luzano, her husband Robert, and their sons Robert and Nate.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 4th, 2020, at Trahan Family Funeral Home, 419 Yoakum Court, Pensacola, Florida, with the visitation beginning at 2:30 pm and the service to immediately follow at 3:00 pm, with Chaplain Lt. Col, Barry Dickson officiating. The service will be streamed online. A video tribute will be available online. For more information, write to fuqua.cs@gmail.com. Arlene’s ashes will be interred beside her mother’s grave at a future date in Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery, Georgiana, Alabama.
