Obituary for John Y. Walker Sr.

John York Walker, Sr. was born and raised in Milton, Florida, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Leonard and Clara Walker. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church where he served as a deacon under the leadership of Rev. J.B. Blount. He later became a member of the Walls of Salvation Church under the leadership of Pastor John Y. Walker, Jr.

John was educated in the Santa Rosa County school system and graduated from T.R. Jackson High School, Class of 1963. He served proudly in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged ranked as a sergeant. As a civilian he transitioned to a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years. He was affectionately known by family and friends as Pap, Syrup, John York or Whoa Whoa.

John Y. Walker, Sr. leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife, Charyl “Penny” Walker; 3 sons, John Y. Walker, Jr. (Dorn), and Gregory L. Walker (Danielle) both of Pensacola, Florida and Charles L. Walker (Angela) of Tampa, Florida; 1 daughter Ingrid “Key” Scott (Jeremy) of Milton, Florida; 12 grandchildren: Tesa, Jabari, Joshua, Xavier, Josiah, JaVonté, Gregory, Jaydon, Lavaughn, Mekhi, Javion and Alanna; 2 sisters Linda Parker (Paul) of Milton, Florida and Vivian Walker of Houston, Texas; 3 brothers Willie Hayes and Earl Walker (Angie) both of Milton, Florida, and Wayne Walker of Pensacola, Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 17, 2019 from 7-8:00 p.m., at Trahan Family Funeral Home of Milton, service will be held Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., at Mt. Pilgrim African Missionary Baptist Church, burial to follow at Milton Keyser Cemetery.
