Obituary for Ellen Henrietta Rummel

Ellen Henrietta Rummel, 89, of Pensacola, Florida, passed away on June 24, 2020. She was born on December 21, 1930 in Elberta, Alabama to Herman and Frieda Rummel. She grew up on a farm with her six siblings. After graduating from Foley High School, she went on to business school in Montgomery for secretary training. Her first job in Pensacola was a secretary for Elabash Jewelers. She then worked at NAS Pensacola until the kids came along. Her second career was with Tupperware until the kids were almost grown. She started her third career by getting an associate degree from PJC. From there, she earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in business from the University of West Florida. She later retired from civil service. Ellen was also a founding member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. She remained a faithful member of the church and servant of her Lord. When asked how she was, her response was “Blessed,” followed by “Have a blessed day!”.
Ellen had a love for flowers and gardening. She was also an avid runner and loved traveling, which she continued as long as she could. She was very proud of her marathons. She could and would talk to anyone- making long lasting friends quickly. She was a loving mother of 3, grandmother of 6, and great-grandmother of 6. She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, sisters, and ex-husband.
Ellen is survived by her children- Susan Callaway, Debra Morros, and Reed (Carol) Callaway, all of Pensacola, Fl; six grandchildren- Brian, Amanda (Dave), Karena (Mike), Katie (David), Katlin (John), and Lesley Pugh; and six great-grandchildren- Gabrielle, Savannah, Logan, Genevieve, Kallei, and Garrett.
The celebration of life service for Ellen will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Redeemer Lutheran Church (333 Commerce St, Pensacola, Fl 32507), with the visitation beginning at 9:30 AM and the service to immediately follow at 11:00 AM.
