Obituary for Joe Preston Golden

Joe Preston Golden, age 92, a longtime resident of Milton, Florida, went to be with Jesus on September 14, 2020. Preston was born in Pollard, Alabama. He graduated from Jay High School and retired from BellSouth after 33 ½ years of service. He was also a contractor who built over 150 homes. After retirement he enjoyed spending time with his coffee drinking buddies at Whataburger drinking an “old man’s cup of coffee.” He attended Pace Assembly of God Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Bertha Golden; his brothers, Narvie Lee Golden, Jamie Golden, Jesse Golden and Alton Golden. He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife of 67 years, Eunice Golden: two daughters, Gail (Lamar) Harris and Angie (Brad) Cutts; son, Joey Golden; cherished granddaughter, Heather (Adam) Williams; beloved grandsons, Brandon Harris, Parker Cutts and Peyton Cutts; precious great-granddaughter, Madison Williams; sister, Gladys Rowell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preston was an amazing father, husband and beloved PaPaw. His grandchildren adored him. He was their “#1 PaPaw.” He loved watching Alabama football and golf but his greatest love was spending time with his family. His face lit up when any of his grandchildren entered the room. He was so proud of each of them. He had a special bond with his great-granddaughter, Madison, whether she came for a visit or called him on the phone they would sing “I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.” Preston was a wonderful role model of what a Godly husband, father and grandfather should be.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Harris, Parker Cutts, Peyton Cutts, Adam Williams, Brad Cutts and Keith Rowell. Honorary Pallbearers will be his coffee drinking buddies. Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2020, at Trahan Funeral Home in Milton with Reverend Glyn Lowery officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., prior to the service.
